"Zhoghovurd" daily writes: "At the National Assembly, RA Chief Prosecutor Anna Vardapetyan, answering the question of MP Taguhi Tovmasyan, announced without naming names that there is a money laundering case against the businessman, whose private house on the shore of Lake Sevan was demolished at the request of the prosecutor's office." The prosecutor did not elaborate on who the businessman is and what his status is, but according to "Zhoghovurd" daily, it refers to Artsakh businessman Arman Hakobjanyan, about whom an official report was submitted to the prosecutor's office on December 30 of last year. It refers to the embezzlement of funds from the "Artsakh Investment Fund" and their subsequent legalization in RA.
The author of the program, Marina Poghosyan, wrote that "Arman Hakobjanyan was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Artsakh Investment Fund, an advisor to the Minister of State of Karabakh, Ruben Vardanyan."
He was involved in a number of transactions with Karen Sargsyan, the head of the State Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, the son of the famous Grigory Sarkisyan, Bako Sahakyan, the representative for special assignments, and was also under the high patronage of Major General Samvel Karapetyan (General Oganovsky) of the Armenian Defense Army, and in the beginning, taking advantage of Oganovsky's connections, he continued his privileged activities already in the territory of the Republic of Armenia. 27.04.2002 in order to hide the movement of money. Yerevan, Malatia-Sebastia, Monte Melkonyan 24/1. Pashinyan hosted the businessman, admiring his 180 ha of peach orchards. However, this story also has an obvious political layer. At the beginning of April 2026, RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan visited Armavir region, where he toured the "smart gardens" owned by Arman Hakobjanyan. During the visit, Hakobjanyan announced that "about 3 billion drams were invested with their funds" for the implementation of the project, and the rest was implemented within the framework of state support, subsidy programs.
Against this background, it is being actively discussed in political circles that such high-level visits can be considered as an impulse of patronage. However, in the same period, Anna Vardapetyan's statement in the National Assembly contained a clear message that there will be no privileged persons before the law.
And in this situation, a contradictory picture is formed. on the one hand, serious accusations of embezzlement and money laundering, on the other hand, the businessman's public activity and high-level political visits. If the statement of the prosecutor's office is consistent, this case may become an indicator of whether political patronage is really excluded in Armenia or not.
One thing, however, remains key. if the presented suspicions are confirmed by legal procedure, then we are talking about serious crimes, and in that case the responsibility should be inevitable, regardless of any connection or circumstance.
