Substances contained in raspberries can protect the body from chronic inflammation and related diseases. Scientists from Galgotias College of Pharmacy (India) came to this conclusion. The study results were published in the Iranian Journal of Basic Medical Sciences (IJBMS).
The researchers analyzed previously published data and examined how components of raspberries affect inflammatory processes in the body. Inflammation is a normal response of the immune system to infection and injury, but when it is chronic, it can contribute to the development of serious diseases, including heart disease, neurodegenerative disorders, arthritis, and cancer.
A meta-analysis showed that raspberries are rich in biologically active substances, mainly polyphenols such as anthocyanins, flavonoids and ellagic acid. These compounds have pronounced antioxidant properties.
According to the authors, the active components of raspberry can affect key signaling pathways associated with inflammation, including MAPK, NF-κB, and JAK-STAT. They help reduce the production of inflammatory molecules and suppress the underlying processes of chronic diseases.
Furthermore, the researchers note a possible protective effect on the cardiovascular system, brain and metabolism.
However, the scientists emphasize that most of the data came from laboratory and observational studies. Further human studies are needed to confirm the clinical effect.
