Iran is ready to resume nuclear talks with the US on its own terms

Iran's authorities are ready to resume negotiations with the United States on the Islamic Republic's nuclear program if they meet Tehran's demands, Kamal Kharazi, adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and head of the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, told CNN.

"They should take the first step and show that they are ready to cooperate with us under the conditions set by us," the official said. "This should be based on equality and mutual respect."

According to him, Iran needs nuclear fuel for civilian use, including medicine, so Tehran is ready to talk with Washington only about the "level of enrichment" of uranium, but not about its termination.

"If there are genuine negotiations between Iran and the United States, ways and means will be found to allow Iran to continue enriching [uranium] while assuring other [countries] that it will not seek to develop nuclear weapons," Kharazi said.
