US senators called on Hungary to give up Russian oil

A group of US senators, including representatives from both the Democratic and Republican parties, ahead of a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán
applied to the Hungarian authorities with a request to refuse to buy Russian oil, reports Bloomberg, referring to a copy of the resolution obtained by it.

"A bipartisan group of US senators calls on Hungary to stop buying Russian energy carriers," the agency said in a statement.

The resolution, signed by 10 senators, including Republicans Roger Wicker and Mitch McConnell, as well as Democrats Gene Shahin, Chris Van Hollen and Chris Coons, said Hungary "has shown no sign of reducing its dependence on Russian fossil fuels."

US President Donald Trump will receive Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán at the White House on Friday, following the postponement of the planned Russia-US summit in Budapest.
