The UN has increased the number of women in humanitarian organizations operating in Afghanistan

After the "Taliban" movement came to power in Afghanistan, the UN was able to increase the number of women working in the country's humanitarian organizations. they started to make up a quarter of all employees, but recently the authorities banned them from working in offices.

Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary General and UN humanitarian coordinator in Afghanistan, Indrika Ratvate told "RIA Novosti" that she is participating in the World Summit on Social Development.

"According to the Afghan tradition, during the last 50 years, the number of men working in the UN structures in the country has significantly exceeded the number of women.

But after 2021, when the Taliban came to power, we hired more Afghan women than before, when their number was very small compared to men, about 17-18%. Thanks to the targeted efforts of the UN to recruit more Afghan women, the proportion in favor of women has increased to 25%," Ratwatte said.
