Three main beneficial properties of red cabbage have been identified

Red cabbage improves gut health, promotes liver detoxification and supports the immune system, according to nutritionist Franklin Joseph (University of Chester, UK) in the Daily Mirror.

According to the expert, red cabbage contains compounds found in broccoli, which have anti-cancer properties. In addition, cabbage is rich in dietary fiber, which contributes to the healthy functioning of the intestines and immune system. Fiber also helps control cholesterol levels and contains virtually no calories.

"The bright color of vegetables indicates a high content of polyphenols and anthocyanins, bioactive compounds that have pronounced anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties," the doctor noted.

Joseph added that the prebiotic fiber in cabbage feeds beneficial gut bacteria, maintaining microbiome balance. He noted that the microbiome is increasingly considered a factor influencing not only digestion, but also mental health.

According to the nutritionist, red cabbage also supports liver health by increasing the efficiency of detoxification and metabolic processes. The doctor recommends eating a few spoonfuls of cabbage, raw or minimally cooked, every day.
