The new Prime Minister of Japan, Sanae Takaichi, has neither confirmed nor denied the information that he is going to nominate US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. The issue was raised during discussions in the Japanese parliament.
"I will avoid answering," he said in response to this question of one of the deputies.
Earlier, White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt told reporters that during the bilateral talks between Trump and Takaichi in Tokyo, the head of the Japanese government announced his intention to nominate the [US] president for the "Nobel Peace Prize".
Trump has repeatedly stated in the past that he considers himself worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize. On October 10, the Nobel Committee announced that this year's prize was awarded to Maria Corina Machado, a former opposition member of the Venezuelan parliament.
