Silicon baking templates are dangerous for health

The scientists from the University of Vatapeto (Canada) have found that when heating silicone cuisine can emit potentially hazardous materials called cyclic siloxans. Some of these materials can accumulate in the body and affect the hormonal system. The results of the study were published in the magazine "Dangerous Materials" (JHM).

The group tested 25 types of silicone templates in retail stores. All samples contained up to 4300 micrograms Siloxians for one gramic material. During the baking, the concentration of these materials in the kitchen air has reached one cubic meter of 646 micrograms per hour, and food they have significantly exceeded the allowable limits.

According to scientists, the risk of silicone influence is the highest in small children, both kitchen vapor, both cooking cookies in cooking dishes.

Researchers have specially mentioned the danger of heavy siloxies (eg D7-D16). These compounds are resistant to decay. When they penetrate themselves in body tissues, heavy siloxes can accumulate over time. Previous studies have shown that these materials have endocrine traits, causing changes in hormonal balance and other long-lasting health consequences.

Scientists also noted that the double use of silicone kitchen utensils reduces the level of these compounds, but does not fully eliminate them, especially in case of long-term or high temperatures. The authors call for review of kitchen silicone product safety standards, introduce components of labeling and restrictions on the use of potentially toxic components.
