US Secretary of State Marco Rubions told European officials that Europe should play a leading role in providing security guarantees for Ukraine, CNN reported, citing an anonymous European diplomat.
According to him, the head of the State Department expressed this position of the White House during a telephone conversation with European National Security Advisers on Thursday.
Rubion also noted that Washington is ready to participate in providing security guarantees for Ukraine, but does not specify the steps that the United States can take in this direction.
Limited US involvement may include American pilots who will make intelligence flights over Ukraine, other sources told CNN. CNN sources added that the US administration also discusses the use of drones for those purposes.
