Found a way to delay the development of type 1 diabetes

Scientists from the University of Queensland found that the increase in production of short chain fatty acids in the bowels may delay the development of 1 diabetes. The results of the study were published in Nature Communications (Natcom).

Within the framework of the experiment, 21 people with type 1 diabetes have been appointed special oral biotherapy. Participants were instructed to accept short chain fatty acids (SCFA). Fatty acids are the mainly useful component of the Germic Community of the bowel, which play an important role in digestion, immunity and general health.

After taking SCFAs, scientists took out samples of intestinal microbiot from each volunteer and transplant them to a group of high-risk mice in diabetes. As a result, the animals have developed a lot later than their relatives who did not transplant.

The analysis has shown that SCFA has enhanced the function of the intestinal ban in both mice and people. Scientists assumed that the growth of short chain fatty acids in the body also puts out the autoimmoon reactions based on diabetes pathogenesis. In the case of type 1 diabetes, due to improper work of the immune system, the pancreas' beta cells, which produce insulin hormone. Due to it, sugar does not penetrate cells effectively and accumulate in the body.
