False trials continue against 16 Armenian hostages in Baku, Azerbaijan since January 17, 2010, including high-ranking political and military leaders of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic.
The accusations against them, from terrorism to the formation of illegal armed groups, are unfounded and politically directed.
These false trials are once again grossly violating international humanitarian law and are calculated experience to erase the historical and political identity of the Armenian people of Artsakh / Nagorno Karabakh.
For about 17 months, these people are illegally stored in detention, 2023. After the cruel military campaign of Azerbaijan in September, more than 120,000 ethnic Armenians were compelled from Artsakh / Nagorno Karabakh. Their continued detention, as well as the threats against the sovereignty of Azerbaijan, the sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia make a serious violation of human rights and international law.
IUSY calls on the international community, including the United Nations, to the European Union, to take immediate action, in particular,
- Degree in direct release of all Armenian political prisoners and hostages in Azerbaijan.
- Azerbaijan is responsible for war crimes and continuing human rights violations through international legal mechanisms.
- Appealed to cooperate with the political and military leadership of the Azerbaijani authoritarian regime.
- Provide the right to the native Armenian population of Artsakh, their homeland collectively under international guarantees and according to the fundamental right to self-determination.
- Rejection of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces from the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia, maintaining its recognized international borders.
IUSY continues to defend the integral rights of Artsakh's indigenous Armenian population, their right to self-determination and the process of international recognition of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic.
