Armenia does not have the luxury of setting itself an “either-or” process, choosing here or there, especially in a situation when the parties to the “either-or” choice are currently in a state of war.
This was stated by Armen Rustamyan, a deputy of the “Armenia” faction, during the discussion of the draft “On the launch of the process of the Republic of Armenia’s accession to the European Union” in the National Assembly.
According to him, Armenia continues to be a member of the EAEU today, a full member of the CSTO, and this at least imperatively requires not to take steps and not to enter into such processes that would put Armenia in front of an “either-or” choice. It is obvious that Armenia cannot simultaneously join incompatible structures.
“Therefore, the EU integration process must take place with the logic that Armenia is ready to be close to the EU to the extent that it does not threaten Armenia’s security and existence,” Rustamyan emphasized.
He also listed a number of countries that have been trying to become EU members for years.
“We are entering a process that has no prospects in terms of its goal, but the process itself can cause problems,” Rustamyan said.
According to the MP, the authorities will present the people with a choice between Turkey and Russia.
