Pezeshkian, Michel discuss nuclear issues, Middle East

Iranian President Pezeshkian, who is visiting New York to participate in the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, met and held talks with Charles Michel on Monday and expressed the views and stances of the Islamic Republic regarding different issues. The head of the Council of Europe, referring to his meeting said that he emphasized the importance of dialogue to prevent the escalation of tensions in the region. According to IRNA's Tuesday morning report, Michel published a post on his X social network about his meeting with the Iranian president on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. He wrote that he  mentioned the concern of the European Union about Iran's involvement in the Ukraine conflict, a claim Iranian authorities have rejected repeatedly. The discussion on Iran’s nuclear was one of the other issues that, according to Michel, he raised during the meeting with Pezeshkian. The Islamic Republic of Iran seeks to expand understanding, empathy and cooperation both within the country and in the regional and international arenas, Pezeshkian said in this meeting, Mehr News Agency reports. Elsewhere in his remarks, Pezeshkian considered the continuation and escalation of Israel’s aggression as the most serious concern of the region and the world today. "Regarding the nuclear issue, the Islamic Republic of Iran has shown its will to resolve the issue, and today we are ready to negotiate and try to resolve the issue," he said, adding that Iran has not and is not seeking nuclear weapons in any way and welcomes and supports any action aimed at establishing and strengthening peace and security in the region and the world. The President of the European Council also said, "We want the Islamic Republic of Iran to play a constructive role in the Palestinian issue, conflicts in Ukraine and reaching an agreement on the nuclear issue."
