Trump's statements about Greenland caused alarm in Europe. Bild:

The newly elected US President Donald Trump's statements regarding Greenland have caused serious concern in Europe. This is reported by Bild. According to him, this is what prompted German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to issue a special statement to the press and publicly remind the US of the need to respect the principle of border inviolability. The head of the German government had a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, and the Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte.

The chancellor discussed Trump's statements with French President Emmanuel Macron via SMS, writes Bild. Earlier on Wednesday, Scholz said that European leaders do not understand Trump's latest comments.

According to Germany's head of government, "the principle of inviolability of borders applies to all countries." Speaking to reporters at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on Tuesday, Trump refused to guarantee that he would not use force or economic coercion to resolve the Panama Canal and Greenland issues.

He has previously stated that the US needs to regain control of the Panama Canal and has also talked about Greenland, an autonomous region within Denmark, joining the US.
