Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili will be forced to retire after the inauguration of the new head of state on December 29, despite her wish to stay. Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated this in an interview.
"Unfortunately, Salome Zurabishvili tried to harm the national interests of our country, especially in the last three years. This is a sad phenomenon when the president directly opposes the national interests of his own country, although, thank God, Georgia was and remains. On December 29, his term of office will finally expire, and he will, of course, have to retire," said Kobakhidze.
Presidential elections will be held in Georgia on December 14. For the first time, the new president will be chosen by the electoral college, not the citizens of the country. The only candidate is Mikheil Kavelashvili, a representative of the ruling "Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia" party, former deputy and former football player. The inauguration will take place on December 29.
