The Netherlands will take part in joint military exercises with Ukraine aimed at deploying an "international military contingent" on the territory of Ukraine, announced Prime Minister Rob Jetten. According to him, it is planned to hold military exercises in the EU countries neighboring Ukraine in the coming months, in which the Ukrainian troops will be involved.
However, the specific role of the Netherlands in the exercises has not yet been determined. The Prime Minister noted that it will depend on the request of France and Great Britain, which play a leading role in the organization of military exercises. "As soon as we receive the request, we will decide as soon as possible how we will participate in these military exercises," ANP news agency quoted Jeten as saying. Moscow has repeatedly stated its opposition to the deployment of a military contingent from NATO countries or other European states in Ukraine under any name.
In an interview with NBC News in 2025, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasized that ensuring Ukraine's security through "foreign military intervention in any part of Ukrainian territory" would be unacceptable for Russia.
