The Zhoghovurd daily writes: “According to the information of the Zhoghovurd daily, a decision has been made in the law enforcement system to collect as many weapons as possible belonging to former high-ranking officials. According to our sources, this also concerns weapons acquired and registered on a legal basis. The Ministry of Internal Affairs is filing lawsuits against former officials, demanding that they hand over weapons received even as donations, awards, or even by purchase to the state.
The sources of the Zhoghovurd daily link the process with the recent intensified law enforcement actions against former officials. According to our information, there is a fear in the law enforcement system that the processes regarding the property and assets of former officials, which are already qualified in political circles as “dekulakization”, conditioned by political views, may pose a risk of personal reprisals or vendettas. It is precisely in order to reduce this risk that an attempt is being made to limit the availability of weapons among former officials as much as possible. It is noteworthy that the topic became especially relevant after the search of the private residence of former SRC Chairman Gagik Khachatryan.
The footage published by the Investigative Committee also showed symbolic weapons, pictures, and souvenirs, while Khachatryan's defenders stated that all the weapons published were legal and had appropriate permits. At the same time, the Interior Ministry police have intensified control over the circulation of weapons and ammunition in recent months. According to official data, in the first half of 2026 alone, 1,293 weapons were withdrawn from illegal circulation, of which 912 were voluntarily surrendered.
