The damage caused by the floods in Nepal is at least $2.56 billion, Reuters reported, citing Dharma Raj Upreti, head of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.
“The cost of the first four months of the early recovery phase, including the construction of roads, temporary shelters, and the provision of drinking water and electricity, will be about $2.56 billion,” the agency said in a statement.
The floods hit the northern regions of Nepal on the morning of August 26 after a powerful stream of water from China overflowed the Bhote Koshi River. The flooding occurred after the collapse of a glacier and the resulting landslide. The death toll from the floods in the country has exceeded 1,200.
