Andy Burnham has become the new leader of the British Labor Party. The statement was made by Shabana Mahmud, the chairman of the National Executive Committee of the ruling party, at a special conference of the ruling party of Great Britain.
The announcement was broadcast live on Sky News. The 56-year-old politician will take over as Prime Minister after the Labor Party comes to power, following Keir Starmer's earlier decision to resign. The change of leadership of Downing Street is scheduled for July 20.
The deadline for the nomination of candidates for the leadership of the Labor Party ended on July 15, but none other than Burnham, the former mayor of Greater Manchester, nominated his candidacy.
