Manfred Weber, head of the European Parliament's leading European People's Party (EPP), called on EU countries to create pan-European defense structures to reduce dependence on US leadership while maintaining NATO membership.
"It is clear for Europe. we must stay together and be independent, including from Trump's (US President Donald - ed.) feelings. This means that now we have to create European defense structures," Weber said in an interview with the Welt am Sonntag newspaper.
Being a supporter of the creation of a pan-European army, Weber noted that this is not the first time that Trump has come into conflict with representatives of European countries and expressed confidence that the American president will do it again.
