US President Donald Trump focused on domestic politics in the main part of his speech to open the country's 250th anniversary celebrations, declaring that there is a resurgence of the communist threat in the United States, including among new immigrants, who he says carry ideas contrary to the American way of life. He characterized communism as an enemy of the Constitution and assured that the US citizens will quickly defeat communism.
According to Al Jazeera, the president also linked the anti-communist rhetoric to the issue of immigration, stating that left-wing politicians and some undocumented immigrants should be removed from the country.
Referring to the recent successes of Democratic Socialists in New York, Colorado and Texas, he described the movement as the biggest threat to the country since its founding, comparing it to the effects of World War II and the 9/11 attacks.
At the end of the speech, Trump presented the country's 250th anniversary as the beginning of America's golden age.
