The US is negotiating with Iran from a strong position, and Tehran understands this, US President Donald Trump is convinced.
He reminded that the Strait of Hormuz is "already open", and also reaffirmed his belief that "the world would be in great danger if Iran had nuclear weapons."
At the beginning of the week, Trump stated that the United States is successfully protecting its interests in negotiations with Iran, because, according to him, Iran is making "big concessions". Moreover, the American leader characterized the situation in the Strait of Hormuz as good, noting that it is open for shipping.
Trump also named Iran as a new export market for American agricultural production amid the Tehran asset freeze agreement.
On Thursday, The New York Post, referring to a high-ranking American official, reported that the Iranian funds unfrozen in the US within the framework of the agreement will not actually be at the disposal of the Iranian authorities. Washington claims that they will be transferred directly to companies from which Iran can buy agricultural products, medical equipment and other approved goods. However, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the speaker of the Iranian parliament, stated on the same day that if the assets are unfrozen, Tehran does not want to use them to buy American goods.
According to Iranian media, Tehran will receive the 12 billion dollars in two installments. Trump also assured that the US has not yet paid any money to Iran, nor has it transferred money from previously frozen Iranian funds.
