The officers of the Cyber Crimes Department of the Main Department of the Criminal Police, implementing the received operational data, discovered another criminal activity carried out with the use of high technologies. the Ministry of Internal Affairs informs.
"According to operational data, a group of people installed specialized computer equipment in one of the private houses of Karbi village of Aragatsotn region and carried out large-scale computer thefts using specially developed programs.
As a result of operative-investigative measures undertaken by the criminal police, the factual data was completed and the report was submitted to the Investigative Committee.
On April 29, according to the decision of the court, the officers of the Criminal Police and the Investigative Committee conducted a search in the said private house. Technical means of crime, including computer equipment, mobile phones and other equipment used in alleged criminal activities, were discovered and seized.
One of the activities of the group was the illegal termination of calls. It is a common crime in the telecommunications industry, also called GSM-fraud or SIM-boxing.
High-tech solutions were used. appropriate services and VoIP (Voice over IP) platforms were acquired from a number of foreign companies, through which international telephone traffic was downloaded via Internet channels to local telecommunication networks, formulated as local calls. Mixing of traffic of different quality and generation of artificial minutes to ensure shadow revenues have been implemented.
The group's criminal scheme also involved the use of malicious software on telecommunications systems. Using artificial intelligence and special instructions in various programming languages, criminals targeted individual accounts, which enabled access to citizens' personal accounts and direct embezzlement of funds.
In order to eliminate digital traces and reduce the risk of detection, special masking methods were used, and proceeds of crime were converted into cryptocurrency.
Currently, large-scale examinations are being carried out.
