ChatGPT speeds up learning but hurts memory

New research shows that ChatGPT can speed up learning, but reduces long-term memory performance. 120 students participated in the test conducted by AB specialist Andre Barkau of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Half of them used ChatGPT to complete the assignment, the other half did not.

As a result of the test conducted after 45 days, the average score of the ChatGPT group was 5.75/10, and the average score of the traditional methods was 6.85/10. This study found that AB accelerates learning in the short term (students in the ChatGPT group spent an average of 3.2 hours and the other group 5.8 hours), but long-term memory suffers.

This happens because AB reduces the mental effort required to assimilate information. Studying should be combined with active mental work, otherwise the brain loses the opportunity to naturally "train". ChatGPT is useful for getting information quickly, but should be used with caution in order to gain solid knowledge.
