The US is preparing for a possible sale of new weapons to India

The Washington administration believes that the controversial issues in the field of trade with India are almost resolved and is preparing for a possible sale of new weapons to the republic. This was announced on February 11 by US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Paul Kapur.

"We have a broad agenda in the field of defense. We just signed a 10-year framework agreement. It will enable us to make progress in operational interoperability, conducting joint military exercises, and the many directions we have been engaged in in recent years. We will expand this activity," he said during a hearing in the House of Representatives' Foreign Relations Committee, speaking about US-India relations.

Earlier, the US and India announced that they agreed on the first part of the trade agreement, within the framework of which Washington agreed to reduce customs duties on products imported from India to 18%. As noted in New Delhi, the parties continue technical consultations and plan to sign the official legal text by mid-March.
