Vance: The US continues negotiations with Russia on the renewed treaty

The US administration is conducting negotiations with the Russian side regarding the signing of an updated version of the Strategic Offensive Arms Reduction Treaty (SATT). This was announced by US Vice President JD Vance.

"These are continuous negotiations. It is obvious that one of the features of the president's foreign policy is the rejection of nuclear proliferation. I think the worst scenario for the American people is when more and more regimes in the world acquire nuclear weapons. CIS is one of its important components. It will be changed compared to the previous version, and it is part of the negotiations we are conducting with the Russians," he told reporters.

Vance expressed confidence that the US administration "will achieve a positive result for the American people by limiting the spread of nuclear weapons."

The Treaty on the Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms (SATT) between Russia and the United States, one of the last international legal instruments regulating the deployment of nuclear weapons, expired on February 5. The USA proposed to extend the restrictions of the treaty to China as well.
