France will support EU sanctions against Iran

France will vote in favor of imposing new sanctions at the European Union level against a number of Iranian officials and representatives of power structures for suppressing anti-government protests, and will also support
The initiative to recognize Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, the elite units of Iran's armed forces) as a terrorist organization. This was announced by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barro upon his arrival at the meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels.

"Today we will agree on European sanctions against the persons who are responsible for suppressing the anti-government demonstrations," he said.

According to Baro, it refers to "more than 20 individuals and legal entities", who will be banned from entering the territory of the European Union, as well as their financial assets will be frozen. Among those persons are members of the IRGC, as well as representatives of the Iranian government, prosecutors and police chiefs.

"Probably, we should go even further. It is for this reason that France has announced that it will support the inclusion of the IRGC in the list of terrorist organizations of the EU," added the minister.
