Hürriyet: Erdogan offered Trump a tripartite summit on Iran

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan suggested to US President Donald Trump to hold a tripartite summit on Iran. The pro-government Hürriyet newspaper of Turkey reports about it.

According to the newspaper, Erdoğan conveyed that proposal during his telephone conversation with the US president on January 27. The Turkish leader took the initiative to hold a high-level meeting with the participation of the USA, Iran and Turkey, possibly in the format of a video conference. "It is reported that Trump reacted positively to this proposal of Erdogan," writes the commentator Hande Firat of the periodical.

Hürriyet also reports that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will visit Turkey this week to hold talks with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan. The specific dates of the visit are not mentioned.

The foreign ministers of Turkey and Iran last had a telephone conversation on January 28. During the conversation, the latest developments around Iran and the steps taken in the direction of de-escalation of tension in the region were discussed.
