China has no intention of participating in a nuclear arms race with any country, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jiang said at a briefing on Tuesday.
Earlier, Reuters, referring to a draft report prepared by the US Department of War, reported that China allegedly deployed more than 100 intercontinental ballistic missiles on the border with Mongolia.
"China strictly adheres to the 'no first use' policy, adheres to a defensive nuclear strategy, always maintains its nuclear forces at the minimum level necessary to ensure national security, and will not engage in a nuclear arms race with any country," Lin Jiang said.
He emphasized that China consistently and actively participates in the revision process of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and maintains a dialogue with all parties on nuclear arms control issues during the P5 meetings.
