Russia highly appreciates the results of the bilateral meeting between the presidents of Russia and Azerbaijan, Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev, held in Dushanbe on October 9. This was announced by Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the Russian President, in an interview with the "Russia 1" TV channel.
Putin and Aliyev met for the first time after the deterioration of relations between Moscow and Baku at the government residence in the capital of Tajikistan. The head of Russia presented the circumstances of the destruction of the AZAL Embraer 190 in detail to his Azerbaijani counterpart. Putin emphasized that the reason was the flight of the Ukrainian drone and the technical failure of the Russian air defense system. He also assured that Moscow will pay compensation to the families of the victims and injured of the plane crash.
After Putin's statements, Aliyev expressed "special thanks" to him for the information. The head of Azerbaijan also noted that his Russian counterpart is personally monitoring the investigation and keeping the situation under control.
