Egypt has announced that mediators are negotiating the second phase of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip

Egypt and other mediators still cannot predict when the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement will begin, but they continue negotiations with all parties, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Arab Republic Abu Bakr Hefni told TASS.

"At the moment, Egyptian diplomats continue to conduct extensive negotiations with all parties - the United States, Qatar, the Palestinian National Authority and Israel - to reach an agreement on the launch of the second phase of the Gaza agreement.

"The holding of a conference in Egypt dedicated to the restoration of the enclave is also related to this issue (it was planned for the end of November, but was postponed indefinitely). We still don't have exact dates," he emphasized within the framework of the ministerial conference of the Russia-Africa Forum in Cairo.

The official confirmed that Palestinian police are training in Egypt to keep the peace in Gaza. However, Hefney noted that their unit as such "has not yet been formed".

"This is an extremely difficult issue. Egypt and all other mediators discuss it behind closed doors. We cannot reveal the details of these consultations yet, as they are confidential, but the diplomatic process continues," the Deputy Foreign Minister stated.
