A replica of the Statue of Liberty fell due to strong winds in the city of Guaiba, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The entire sculpture, including the pedestal, was 35 meters high. As reported by the G1 news portal, referring to the mayor Marcelo Maranata, there were no casualties.
The lamp of the statue and the hand holding it were broken. The incident happened on December 15, during a strong wind. This is not the first case related to the replica of the Statue of Liberty in Brazil. CNN reports that the monument caught fire earlier in September.
The statue fell in the square near the Havana store and McDonald's restaurant. It was installed in 2020 when the store opened. The company that owns it has announced that it will soon start dismantling the damaged structure.
