The government commission of Nepal estimated the material damage caused by the anti-government protests in September at 580 million dollars, reports The Himalayan Times.
The committee head Rabibal Pant submitted the final report to Chief Minister Sushila Karki on Thursday. Damage to various structures was recorded in 54 out of 77 regions of the country. The number of victims is estimated at 77, 429 people were injured, including 17 children.
In general, about 2,700 structures were damaged to varying degrees during the protests. Most of the losses, $300 million, fell on government institutions. About 13,000 vehicles were also damaged.
At the beginning of September, riots broke out in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, and in other cities. The main participants were students and Generation Z activists (people born between the mid-1990s and early 2010s).
