US Ambassador to Ankara Tom Barrack stated that the existing positive relations between US President Donald Trump and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan provided an opportunity for effective discussions on the supply of F-35 fighter jets.
"The positive relationship between President Trump and President Erdogan has created a new atmosphere of cooperation and this has paved the way for the most productive contacts we have had in this matter in approximately 10 years." In a post on the social network, Barrak also informed that the negotiations with Turkey regarding the re-inclusion of fighter jets in the program and the use of Russian S-400 anti-missile systems are ongoing.
In addition, the latter stated that in order to return to the fighter jet program, Turkey should not use and possess the S-400s, and expressed hope that the negotiations will be completed in the coming months with results corresponding to the security needs of both the United States and Turkey.
