Budapest rejects the EU's migration treaty, which provides for the distribution of migrants among member states, and will challenge its provisions in court, according to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's chief of staff, Gergely Hüyas.
"Guyas has categorically rejected the recently adopted EU migration treaty, which sets a mandatory quota for migrants in Hungary," Zoltan Kovacs, secretary of state for international communications and communications in the Hungarian Prime Minister's Office, wrote in a statement.
As Gulyas emphasized, the national referendum has already rejected the offer of resettlement of migrants by a majority. He noted that only the Hungarian people can make decisions on migration issues.
The head of the Hungarian Prime Minister's office also stated that Budapest "intends to oppose" the agreement and "will challenge its provisions in the Court of the European Union if they come into force."
