US threats against Venezuela are a new form of imperialism and psychological warfare, declared the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic, Ivan Gil Pinto, during the opening of the "People's Assembly for Peace and Sovereignty of the Americas", which was broadcast on the Venezolana de Televisión channel.
The minister noted that a "psychological war" has started against Venezuela because the American sanctions supported by the European Union did not produce the desired results for the West.
"This is perhaps the first case in 200 years of such threats, when economic, military and media power is used to wage an unprecedented psychological war," the minister noted.
The foreign minister condemned Washington's imperialist attempts to revive the Monroe Doctrine "in order to establish US hegemony on the continent". He emphasized that US policy "represents a direct threat not only to Venezuela, but also to the sovereign states of Latin America and the world."
