Zakharova mentioned the goal of putting pressure on Venezuela

Venezuela is being pressured to change its government in order to gain control of Venezuelan oil through a new leadership that is favorable to foreign players, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has suggested.

"The situation in Venezuela is developing before our eyes. They have done everything with this country: sanctions, embargoes, threats. How many elections have been held in this country in the last few years? All these elections cannot be liked by those whose main goal is to change the regime," he said while speaking at the All-Russian Patriotic Forum.

The diplomat emphasized that the change of power means appointing people in Caracas who will serve the interests of other countries.

"Why?" Because the oil reserves there are such that they can regulate or influence the global energy market," he explained.
