Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who spent 21 days in prison, said in his book "The Prisoner's Diary" that during a meeting with French leader Emmanuel Macron, which took place before the start of his sentence, he refused to be transferred to a "safer" correctional facility and, in general, "preferential treatment."
This was reported by the European publication Politico, which reviewed the text of the book, which will be released on December 10.
"I had nothing to say to him, and I was not in the mood for a friendly conversation," the publication quotes a passage from the book "The Prisoner's Diary", where the former president's meeting with Macron is described.
The book states that Sarkozy refused the French leader's offer to move him to a supposedly safer prison, as well as privileges other than having a guard in his cell.
