A group of deputies of the European Parliament issued a statement in Washington after the talks between Armenia, the United States and Azerbaijan.
In particular, the representatives of the European Parliament expressed hope for the rapid withdrawal of the Azerbaijani troops and resolving the issue of the Armenian captives held illegally in Azerbaijan.

"We warmly welcome the results of the meeting of the Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders in Washington on August 8 2025, in particular, the joint declaration of the two leaders of the two countries, which stipulates further steps to achieve prolonged peace.
We appreciate the determination of the governments of Armenia and Azerbaijan to end their long-term conflict, as well as the significant contribution to the United States in achieving such a positive outcome, among them, among the EU. It is important that the process continues as soon as possible with the signing and ratification of the initialed peace agreement.
The political agreement to open communications between the two countries, based on the sovereignty of states, territorial integrity and competence, has been made in the joint declaration of leaders, makes great progress. We note Armenia's intention to cooperate with the United States and the otherwise determined third parties to develop and manage the route in south of Armenia and welcome the intention to invest in the United States. At the same time, we emphasize the importance of mutual benefits of international and domestic communication for the Republic of Armenia, as agreed by leaders. After the implementation, this important infrastructure project will reveal the huge potential of the South Caucasus to become a center of trade and economic prosperity, for the benefit of all countries in the region.
Turkey's constructive involvement will be important for the sale of full potential for this progress. We call on the Turkish government to support these positive developments, noting Armenia's readiness to normalize and open Armenia-Turkey border for the benefit of countries and countries outside its borders.
At the same time, we welcome the unconditional commitment of leaders to the charter of the United Nations and the Principles of the Inadmissibility of the Alma-Ata of the United Nations, as well as the inadmissibility of the immunity of international borders. We expect that it will lead to further progress in the process of further progress in the border demarcation and the complete withdrawal of the Azerbaijani forces from the territory of the Republic of Armenia. At the same time, we celebrate the need to solve the unresolved problems of the Armenian prisoners of war and displaced from Karabakh.
The EU is actively involved in the support of stability and prosperity in the South Caucasus and is ready to continue to promote the settlement process.
