Today, famous sea painter Hovhannes (Ivan) is Aivazovsky's birthday. On this day, we regret that the Aivazovsky monument in Stepanakert was destroyed by the Azerbaijani occupation administration in 2021 after the entire population of Artsakh was immediately displaced from the homeland. This was reported by Tourism and Culture Development Agency.
"The author of the monument is sculptor S. Shcherbakov. It was dedicated not only to the world-renowned Armenian artist, but also Artsakh connecting Armenian and national cultural heritage.
The destruction of the monument is another testimony of the systematic elimination of the Armenian cultural presence in Artsakh. We continue to prove whether to note and socialize the facts of destroying cultural values, making sure that they will not be forgotten, and the international community will have a worthy assessment.
