Belarusian citizens living in Russia are now eligible to participate in local elections. The relevant law was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to the law, the citizens of Belarus living in Russia can be elected and elected to Russia's local self-government bodies. The citizens of the Russian Federation will also receive the same right, but already in Belarus.
On March 13, 2025, a protocol was signed in Moscow, between the Republic of Russia and the Republic of Belarus on December 25, 1998, which envisages the provision of the above-mentioned rights to the citizens of the two countries. Putin presented the document to the parliament in July.
