The Ukrainian authorities do not represent the population of the country's south-east and, therefore, cannot claim the country's territorial integrity. The statement came from Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov
In an interview with Magyar Nemzet.
Lavrov reminded that in 1970 the UN General Assembly adopted a declaration on the principles of international law.
"It mentions that the principle of territorial integrity refers to the states whose governments respect the principle of equality and self-determination of peoples," he said.
The Minister noted that the Ukrainian authorities did not take into account the right of residents of the country's Russian-speaking areas, so they cannot rely on the application of the principle of territorial integrity.
