Excess weight in Russia hits the economy

More than 60% of citizens in Russia have excess weight, which has a negative impact on the country's economy. This was stated by the Russian State Duma MP Irina Filatova at a press conference of the NSN. According to him, overweight is related to the growth of diabetes, which has almost doubled in the last 15 years. Filatova noted that overweight is deteriorating the quality of life, reduces life expectancy, reduces reproductive skills and has a negative effect on the demographic situation. According to him, about 52% of the deaths of diabetes and related diseases are due to these diseases, which harms the country's economy seriously.

Russia is entering the list of eight countries where more than half of the oils live. The list is also China, India, the United States, Brazil, Mexico, Indonesia and Egypt. As of 2021, 67% of women and 62% of men have excess weight or obese in Russia. It is projected to reach 73% by 2050.

Experts have warned that in 2035 of overweight issues can reduce world GDP by 2.9%, which is equivalent to $ 4 trillion. In 2019, expenditures on overweight in Russia amounted to $ 3.3 billion.
