The European Parliament called not to recognize the upcoming presidential elections in Belarus

The European Parliament advised the European Union not to recognize the presidential elections of Belarus, which will be held on January 26. This appeal is contained in the resolution adopted at the Strasbourg session on Wednesday.

429 MPs voted in favor of such a resolution, 205 MPs were against, and another 23 abstained.

The members of the European Parliament also called for the strengthening of sanctions against Belarus, accusing its authorities of violating human rights.

The European Parliament is a consultative body, and its decisions are not binding on the EU institutions.

Earlier, Anatoly Glaz, the representative of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, drew attention to the bias of the European assessments regarding the elections in the republic.
