Pope Francis sent a telegram of wishes to the newly elected US President Donald Trump on the occasion of his inauguration. This was reported by the press service of the Holy See.
The pontiff, who has previously spoken out against the Republican's anti-immigration rhetoric, said he would pray for Trump to be given "wisdom, strength and protection" during his presidency.
"I hope that under your leadership, the American people will prosper and will always strive to build a more just society, where there will be no place for hatred, discrimination or isolation," said the leader of the Catholic Church.
On January 20, at 12:00 local time (20:00 Moscow time), Donald Trump will be sworn in as the president of the United States. He will become the 47th president of the country. The Republican was previously in office from 2016 to 2020.
