Samvel Karapetyan, the president of the Association of Armenian Businessmen and the "Tashir" group of companies, expressed his support for the Armenian prisoners held illegally in Baku and called for joint efforts to support them.
"Today, the trial of Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians arrested in September of last year, including former presidents and civilians, as well as the separate trial of Ruben Vardanyan begins. It is obvious to everyone that this trial is a show.
We cannot remain indifferent in the created situation. Today, I want to appeal to the widest possible circle of the public, as a member of the Diaspora, a citizen, a friend, an Armenian and just a caring person, with a call for justice.
For about 500 days, our compatriots are in Baku prisons, deprived of the right to protection, communication and access to information.
Such methods are applied to them, which violate the international principles of human rights protection. These people, who have defended their people's right to peaceful life for many years, today they need our support and protection.
I call on all the participants in the process to ensure the legal right to justice for these people. We remain faithful to the traditions of supporting our compatriots and being by their side in difficult times.
May their return home become a symbol of justice and the victory of humanity," the statement said.
