Michelle Obama, the wife of the 44th president of the United States, Barack Obama, will not participate in the inauguration of the elected president of the United States, Donald Trump. This was confirmed to the Associated Press by the press service of the Obama couple.
"Former President Barack Obama has been confirmed to attend the 60th Inauguration. Former First Lady Michelle Obama will not participate in the future inauguration," the statement said.
Michelle Obama was also absent at the funeral of the 39th president of the country, Jimmy Carter. Thus, Trump's inauguration will be the second public event in a row that her husband will attend alone. Former US presidents Bill Clinton and George Bush with their wives Hillary and Laura will also arrive at the ceremony to be held in Washington on January 20.
