As Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Minister of Interior of the Interim Government of the People's Republic explained, due to some agreements signed during the previous government, "a number of problems arose along the Bangladesh-India border".

"However, the efforts of our people and border guards have forced India to stop certain activities, including the construction of barbed wire," he said.
Speaking to the media after the meeting at the Ministry of External Affairs, Ambassador Verma said that Dhaka and New Delhi have "agreed to fence the border for security purposes".

"Our border agencies continue to stay in touch on this issue. We expect that this mutual understanding will be translated into action and a joint approach will be developed in the fight against crimes at the border," the ambassador added.
