A scandal has erupted in Lithuania in connection with the Deputy Minister's celebration of May 9

In Lithuania, a scandal arose around the Deputy Minister of Finance Valentin Gavrilov, who congratulated his followers on social networks on Victory Day and announced that he will continue to celebrate May 9, because this date is important for his family. LRT writes about this.

"This date has always been important for our family. Yes, I understand the current context, but I respect the memory of my grandfathers and other relatives. We are trying to keep this tradition on May 9, and if it is not possible to celebrate on that day, then on the 8th or 10th," said Gavrilov.

This caused dissatisfaction among the members of the Social Democratic Party, of which Gavrilov is a member, and his party members called on him to resign. The party leadership intends to advise the deputy minister to stop celebrating the Victory Day, writes the periodical.

At the same time, the former minister of culture and member of the Seimas, Simonas Kairis, called Gavrilov's actions an example of "everyday Sovietism". The President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nauseda, through his advisers, also expressed the opinion that the personal position of Deputy Minister Gavrilov in the context of his position is incomprehensible and unacceptable.
