The US is raising tariffs on some goods imported from China

The United States of America will increase tariffs on polycrystalline silicon wafers and tungsten products imported from China starting January 1, 2025, according to a document published by the Office of the US Trade Representative.

According to the publication, the purpose of the new decision is to reduce the dependence on imports from China, which threatens the stability of US supply chains.

"Tariff increases will stimulate investment in domestic manufacturing and promote local industry," the document, which was published in the Federal Register of US Government Official Documents, said. up to 25 percent.

These measures are aimed at protecting national security and will support strategic sectors such as the defense industry, automotive industry and energy. Meanwhile, tariffs on solar cells and microchip components, including polycrystalline and silicon wafers, will rise to 50 percent. This decision was made under the US Trade Act.
